Myja railway bridge

Map: Myja railway bridge
The bridge is located in 63,524 km of the railway line number 14, its eastern abutment belongs to the city, while the western abutment is located in Smardzew. Independent simply supported spans date back to 1949 and support two slab tracks. Main steel plate girders are welded and riveted. The bridge has 22,7 m span with total lenght of 23,7 m. Overall depth of the bridge (i.e. distance between the bottom of the girder and top of the rail) is 2,5 m, while depth of the girders is 2,2 m reducing over the bearings due to bottom flange's inconsistent thickness. Total weight of both steel structures reaches 70 t. On the eastern abutment there is a bench mark dating from before the Second World War. Existing structure replaced old truss bridge with parabolic bottom flange, which was destroyed in 1939. Until WWI the structure was a truss with parallel chords and multiple diagonals.
